I’m also unbelievably sick of the HARDCORE POWER TOP DOM LOUIS trope because it makes no fucking sense to me whatsoever either with Louis’ persona OR with Harry/Louis’ interactions, and it exists solely because a few very talented and popular writers took D/s themes from other fandoms - that I understand made SENSE with those pairings - and transplanted them into, admittedly very well-written and very sexy, Harry/Louis fic.  I have no problem with those writers/fics, either, don’t get me wrong — I read them and enjoy them and envy them and respect them and wish that I could write smut as well and/or be as prolific.  I just get annoyed that people have taken their fanFICTION kink trope and try to spin it as What Really Happens In Hotel Rooms, because no, and it also bothers me that ANY other kind of sexual/interpersonal dynamic written between Harry/Louis now is considered wrong?

And then, this fandom being this fandom, some popular shipping blog decided This Must Be True Because Gay Ppl Must Be SoooOoOoOo Kinky I Know BC I HAVE A GAY UNCLE GUISE and it turned into a totally overblown thing.

I HATE SO MUCH ABOUT THE THINGS THAT THIS SHIPPING FANDOM CHOOSES TO BE.

I hate the pedophilia obsession on the kinkmeme.  Suzie plots well and fills quickly and writes well, but GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, FANDOM, STOP ARBITRARILY ASKING FOR HARRY TO BE 12 FOR NO REASON JUST TO TRY TO GET HER TO NOTICE YOUR PROMPT.  YOUR THREESOME PROMPT WAS SEXY ENOUGH WITHOUT HAVING TO MAKE IT INCESTUOUS PEDOPHILIA.

Pedophilia is not a kink.  It is a psychopathy.  And it needs trigger warnings on EVERY prompt and EVERY fill, and I DON’T FUCKING UNDERSTAND HOW THIS FANDOM A) DOESN’T UNDERSTAND TRIGGER WARNINGS IN GENERAL AND B) DID NOT FIGURE OUT FROM THE ZUX DISASTER THAT ACTUALLY PEDOPHILIA IS NOT CUTE OR FUNNY OR OKAY AND IT ACTUALLY REALLY SCARES AND HURTS PEOPLE!?

I’m also just generally sick of people being really one-dimensional about Louis.  I’m never even sure that I write enough layers of him myself, but I think he’s an incredibly, incredibly complex and multifaceted guy and that BELIEVE IT OR NOT THE THINGS HE SAYS AND DOES HAVE ACTUAL REAL GROWN-UP MAN MOTIVATIONS BEHIND THEM and when people reduce him to The Sassy LousbianNnnn~ Queen Who’s All For Laughs And Fucking Buttz I just get REALLY ANGRY. 

Because tbqh I’ve always felt like he was so obnoxious in the original video diaries because his parents were getting a fucking divorce while he was halfway across the country from his little sisters and he was trying to make them laugh when they saw him on TV.  And he lashes out at people who, yes, hurt people he’s close to and whom he loves, but he also lashes out at the people who in hurting his loved ones are threatening him and his ability to be a PERSON who isn’t a caricature. 

And I think he used to play that caricature role very much on purpose because I think he has the least self-confidence in the band, or maybe any professional band I’ve ever liked, and he just wanted someone to notice him and like him for something, and THAT IS WHY HE TELL HARRY TO DO STUFF.  I don’t think he tells Harry to do shit to dominate him or humiliate him (necessarily, although I do think he likes that particular side-effect LOL), but because he just wants to see if Harry will listen to him, because lbr: no one ever listens to Louis Tomlinson, and I feel like that really sucks.

And I think that more people should write fic that explores the actual real life gaps in their life experience (Harry’s and Louis’, I mean) because I think it’s fucking fascinating that while Louis was flunking out of 6th form and having to resit his tests, Harry was getting tested for fucking MENSA.  And Harry is the family baby while Louis is the surrogate family dad.  And they both had kind of awful bio-dads.  And kind of awesome, supportive mothers.  And stepdads they seem to love in a weirdly indifferent way.  And I just want people to notice like… actual things that would be interesting in fic for them, rather than constantly wanting rape and pedophilia and turning them into one-dimensional caricatures?

And maybe I write them as caricatures, too, and maybe I see them totally wrong — because I know a lot of people would say that on the pure basis that I ship them at all — and that’s fine and valid and everyone’s entitled to their shipping opinions.  It’s fandom.

But goddammit, fandom.
