Last Thanksgiving, Aimmyarrowshigh released this gem. I kept sneaking off, away from the family to read about victor!Peeta, but damaged!Peeta, which led to Dark!Peeta, Feeta, and Everlark (of course). I’m sad that she didn’t finish the series, but thankful for what she did share with the fandom.

I might still finish it… I couldn’t write Hunger Games fic while writing The Panem Companion, though, hence the long hiatus!  But now that TPC is being released on December 4, I might go back to it.  If I feel like I could add anything to the HG fic landscape!  There are so many more good writers now (and there were a ton before, too, so it’s just basically tripled in goodness)!

My panel is only about 20-25 minutes; I’ll be speaking after Erin Lovejoy-Guron speaks about gender and sexuality in The Hunger Games series, focusing on the first novel (if you’re interested).  :)

Although the Hunger Games trilogy takes place in what looks like a future North America, the nation of Panem is distinctive from the contemporary United States, Canada, and Mexico. Social and cultural conventions clearly shifted over the centuries between our own time and Katniss Everdeen’s or have they? Explore how the world of the Hunger Games presents race, culture, and ethnicity and how that treatment mirrors the way they are represented in media today.

This chapter has basically one dramatic thing happening after another, and I’m not sure how it worked out that way, outline-wise, but I’m sorry. It won’t be common for chapters to come; I think it turned out like this because it sets up the second “act” of the fic in the next group of ten chapters. 8\

We’re excited about this for multiple reasons:

1. Only twenty feet from Starbucks!
2. Easy for you to find!

Smart Pop Books publishing is listed in two places in the exhibit hall guide, and you’ll still be able to pick up a sampler from our table at #J7, but #4300 is where the action is.

This is 2012’s version of our yearly sampler volume, with standalone essays and excerpts from In Pursuit of Spenser, Beyond the Wall, The Panem Companion, and Ender’s World—plus, as a bonus, excerpts from two of our parent publisher BenBella Books’ 2012 pop culture titles: insider memoir Christian Bale and Claudia Christian’s Babylon Confidential. This year, it clocks in at 144-pages of between-panel entertainment.

Along with the sampler, you can pick up a free Smart Pop button, so as to better adorn your convention badge lanyard.  We’re also starting a new tradition: limited edition Smart Pop buttons.

* I will not be at San Diego Comic-Con, but there is a con coming up in August where I will be giving a panel.  I’ll give details on that once I get clearance to say things!  And if you do go to SDCC and get a copy of the preview, let me know what you think! *
