I just realized that I never posted this —

ONE DIRECTION: Big Bang Art for “You Just Keep On Trying (Until You Run Out of Cake)” by Reili!

Author: kisforkurama
Title: you just keep on trying (until you run out of cake)
Word length: 15484
Pairing(s): OT5 & Maiden
Rating: PG-13
Warning(s): None.
Summary: Why would a bakery have a fandom? Because the bakery is staffed by 5 really pretty boys and it also serves really good pastries. Why would a bakery have a Naked Server Night? Because … the bakery is staffed by 5 really pretty boys and the proceeds are going to a charity?

on lj | on dw

What I thought was really interesting about Reili’s story is that it was a lot more than your usual bakery AU — instead of just transplanting the One Direction boys to a bakery, it transplanted their entire FANDOM to a bakery, too! I loved the element of “bakery fandom” (because it reminded me of people fangirling for Adriano Zumbo’s pastries or Sprinkles cupcakes or Laduree macarons!) and I wanted to try to make a fanmix from within that alternate universe where One Direction is a patisserie and I was one of the fans in the storyverse. :)

So then I thought… how WOULD you make fanworks for a bakery?

So basically Camas and Sonoma Provinces are my new favorite thing, because… they’re basically District Four. And I really love District Four.

So a Finnick/Annie version of this mix will be forthcoming when I manage a cover that I like. LOL

download @ LJ!

So, this mix is made partially of songs from e.lockhart’s own Frankie Landau-Banks mix and partially of songs that remind me, either through content or tone but not necessarily both in all cases, of Frankie. Because she is badass and fuckawesome and every person should read this book. It is the sort of book that, had it existed when I was in high school, would have changed my entire college experience in the most necessary, fundamental ways. There is a reason it was a Printz book, basically. I don’t want to give anything away, because really, you need to experience it fresh, but here:

‘Frankie, I don’t know what I said to piss you off, but you are being way oversensitive.’

‘I’m not oversensitive. I’m just analyzing your supposedly innocent commentary.’

Her mind felt alive, like she had used it in some electric way, uncovering all the ‘nocuous’ laters in Porter’s seemingly innocuous statement. ‘You look great this year, Frankie. Don’t let him take advantage of you.’ … She had been right about what Porter really meant, she was certain she had been.

She will not be simple and sweet. That Bunny Rabbit is dead. )

It’s February and the weather is weird, cold, and just dreary enough that I’m always a little bit sleepy, but just bright enough that I can’t actually sleep. Work is slow and the students are all super grouchy. TV is in a slump. I’m stressed out. February is just pretty much boring. So this month, my mix — these are just the mixes I make for my car each month, more or less, although ngl this month I’m putting “What Makes You Beautiful” on the actual CD again even though I’m not including it here — is mostly uptempo, dancy stuff. “Lego House” and “Side Effects of Sipping on Sunshine” are the exceptions, but they’re lovely and a good match for the February grays. I also always get into 60s music again in the late winter, so there’s a bit of representation from my favorite power ladies here. And the extremely odd but catchy return of Fred MacPherson, my favorite British oddball.I judge myself whenever I think he’s sort of sexy. Because, really, he is so not. He looks like he’s always wearing one of those Groucho Marx masks.AND, this month I’m seeing One Direction in concert with igrab, so, yay! :D This is a fandom/trend that will not be leaving my heart anytime soon, for better or worse.Enjoy!

Alright, so it happens. The once. Afterwards, once she’s redressed and Harry sits looking at her silhouette, still under the covers, he opens his mouth to say something. But Gemma cuts him off.“Don’t,” is all she says.Slowly, he moves towards her, brushing her hair back over her shoulder with one hand and reaching to touch her cheek with the other. His breath ghosts over the line of her cheekbones.“Kiss me and I’ll cut your fucking tongue out.”He backs off fairly swiftly after that. The way she stretches her arms over her head, reaching up to touch the top of the door frame, makes Gemma’s tank rise up, revealing the cut of her hips above her jeans. (please don’t ask me to justify this.)

So, a fanmix for a fake TV show that we started starring One Direction and some of the Game of Thrones cast and Gemma Arterton… yes.
They’re drug dealers.  It’s gonna be really good, though.  We have most of the episodes outlined.  Copiously.  It’s all mapped out.  Three seasons so far!
It’ll be good.  You should read it.  Because we’re not ridiculous.

I’m going to start a new Thing where I post my favorite songs of the month each month on the first. Why the first and not the last day? Because I will forget unless it’s a good round number like “the first,” that’s why.The majority of these songs are either not available for sale in the USA or not available for sale at all, but consider them all 24-hour previews per RIAA standards or whatever.
Going into 2012, I’m listening to more “pure” pop or bubblegum pop than I’ve actually listened to since 2008, but there’s a fair amount of acoustic covers in my favorites list as well. And, of course, the ubiquitous novelty songs that I like (this time it’s Carl Sagan ft. Stephen Hawking!) and the “holy crap this is actually good music why does V. like this?!” inclusion (this time, the STUNNINGLY beautiful Miri Ben-Ari ft. Martin Luther King Jr. selection that I highly recommend even if you hate everything else that has ever entered my ears). The majority of my musical faves right now are British bands, but there’s some New York City/Long Island indie representation, too, of course. Enjoy!

SUPPORT GREG RAPOSO (formerly of the boy band Dream Street and the rock bands Stereopath and RAPOSO) by helping him make his second solo CD!  He’s super, super talented and a genuinely nice person, and I couldn’t be happier or prouder of him for getting back out there as a solo act.  There are only three days left to get pledges, so please give $5 or $10 (or more if you want!) and spread the word!
(If you listen to my fanmixes, I OFTEN include his music, so there you go.)
